RIP Launch Day Exbawks
I knew this day would come, but prayed it wouldn't none the less. My Xbox 360, purchased on launch day 2005 and ridden harder than a derby horse has finally succumbed to the dreaded Red Ring of Death. It went out with a bang, watching a Siege target building crumble during a chain explosion in Red Faction Guerrilla, freezing solid and rebooting to the crimson error code we all hope we'll never see.
I'm weighing my options, between an expedient replacement and the lightness of my wallet, hoping to return to Mars to blow shit up by the end of the week. Microsoft wants ninety nine freaking dollars to repair my console, so I'm probably just going to say fuck it and buy a new one. I've got three choices basically: buy Elite bundle, buy Core pack and separate hard drive, or buy Core pack and use old hard drive. In order of cost, pricey to cheapskate. The third option may be the best currently, since I really could use that hundred dollar difference to do important things like pay the rent.

sucks man. My launch day 360 was starting to overheat last year and games kept freezing; so i figured I would get the 3rrod very soon. Thankfully, since it still worked, i traded it in for an Elite and never regreded it. Before you do anything, i would look into this http://www.morearnings.com/2008/09/19/xbox-360-red-ring-of-death-repair-guide/. I've read it works. If all things fail, I've heard that you can trade in your 3rrod 360 and get like $75-80 ish that can be used for a new core or whatnot.
Good, now you can stop paying $60 bucks for a game and play on the PC. tell yer bro to get some TF2 and some vent.
Problem is he doesn't have a PC and probably never will. He's strictly a console gamer and never plans to migrate to the 21st century with these newfangled personal computers. Been trying to talk him into it for probably six or eight years, no luck.
Meh but in the long run a PC would cost less (your saving atleast 10 bucks with every game purchase), and the fact that consoles are just proprietary computers.
Also atleast now you have a chance of getting a better newer xbox, such has the elite.
i'm a strictly story-line-game console gamer...online gaming leaves no time to dick around with on screen keyboards or clumsy button layouts.
mouse and WASD (along with about 100 other easily accesable keys and buttons) always wins over clumsy thumbsticks and limited buttons.
